When viewing the theme on mobile (not in a desktop browser mobile inspector) the offcanvas menu automatically opens every time when you use the back button.

This issue did not exist with J3.9.19 but when updated to 3.9.20 the issue happens. I've only tested this on a two themes Folium and Themis.

The quickstart packages are J3.9.15 so there is no issue. Once you update, issue.

As you know it's best practice to keep a Joomla site up-to-date and we can't upgrade the Quickstart to J3.9.19.

I urge you to update your own live demo's and see the issue first hand. It's terrible for mobile visitors which account for about 60% of all our client website traffic.

I posted this a couple weeks ago and it went dark with no solution. I'm posting here one last time to hopefully get a solution.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us. I have checked the Folium Template with Joomla latest version. The off-canvas menu works fine.

Hi Toufiq,

Thank you so much for looking into this. I don't want to seem disrespectful at all because you guys rock BUT please, please, please look at this on an actual mobile device. I've posted this four times just to get some attention and twice this has been responded to with a screen recording of a DESKTOP browser using a mobile inspector.

I guarantee you when you look at it on an actual mobile device it will be broken. I've tested it on your own Quickstart packages.

I started the ticket off with this disclaimer because the first support team member to look into this did the same thing - used a desktop browser mobile inspector.

Thanks,

Jake

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback. I always want to be your side. Cause, I love our users. Would you please check the screencast video? I have captured this video from the mobile device.

Thanks Toufiq for continuing to look into this.

Crap, now we have a classic problem - shows up for us, not for you.

I set-up a clean quickstart package here - marksteinsalescompany.com/v2

Pure Folium install, no other plugins or components. When I tested this with the Quickstart's packaged Joomla 3.9.15 it worked just fine, just like your video.

When I updated the Quickstart package to J 3.9.20 - the offcanvas menu was busted. It opens automatically when using the mobile browser's back button.

This was happening on the actual site marksteinsalescompany.com but with so many component and plugins installed I wanted to double check with a clean, fresh install.

In the demo you created, are you on Joomla 3.9.20 or using an older version of Joomla (i.e. the quickstart packaged with 3.9.15)?

This issue only started showing up once we updated to 3.9.20.

I watched your video but didn't see you go to a page and then use your browser's back button to see the issue.

Here is a video of the issue right in the Folium Quickstart package

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAGEQKAJwLk

You can see in the video I go to the About Us page and then hit the back button - boom, automatic opened Offcanvas menu on the home page.

To replicate the issue:

  1. Go to Folium home page
  2. Open mobile offcanvas menu
    Go to any page
From the new page, use your mobile browsers back button

Hi Toufiq - thank you for checking on this.

I would argue having the mobile main menu automatically open every time you go back a page is a terrible "normal" functionality. You can't tell me after watching my screen capture video you think having to close an offcanvas menu before seeing page content is normal. I'm not a big "back button" user but people do it and our client does it.

This did not happen before updating to J3.9.20.

We've gone to Joomlancers to hire an expert to fix this. Our client is unhappy and now unless a hired expert fixes it, I'm facing disabling your menu system and having to install a third party solution which I don't want to do.

I've seen this brought up in other posts and I think as people (or clients) actually check their sites on mobile devices this is going to keep coming up in the forum. Worse, now I know can't rely on your themes for normal mobile functionality on iPhone's. : (
