Hi, according to google, the first step to adding Adsense

On the site you used to create your AdSense account, paste the code between the <head> and </head> tags of a page that has content and regular traffic.

How is this done with a Joomla site?

Hi,
You have two options:
1) If your template, for example, Helix allows you to put custom code in template options.

2) Or if not, you have to find and install plugin which allows you to use custom code inside < head > area.
